Renovation Apogee
living room // Tell Me Twice by Carrie Gillen
As these clients wrapped up a comprehensive and life-changing home renovation, they decided a piece of art was the capstone the project needed. And I certainly agreed. While new countertops or flooring can be quite satisfying, nothing adds distinction and vitality to a home like original art. A beautiful new backsplash can be enjoyed for many years, but the right art will be enjoyed for a lifetime, maybe even generations, within the walls of the intended home and beyond.
In our quest, I introduced these clients to the work of Carrie Gillen. Not surprisingly, they were drawn to the color, dimension and playfulness Carrie creates and chose the perfect 50 inch by 40 inch piece, Tell Me Twice, which now hangs prominently above their living room mantle. Like the clients, I’m obsessed with this piece. The colors used here win. Period. Every time. And while the eye is somewhat obviously drawn to the twisted fabric center, the intersection of various other contrasting elements throughout also prove compelling. This piece is flirtatious and fun and somehow both complicated and simple. It currently serves as a worthy complement to an extensive home renovation, but something tells me she’ll take on a life and meaning beyond even the beautifully renovated version of her new home.
