Frenetic teenage energy meets sleeping calm
bedroom // vintage art and Peeking Horse print by Sisi and Seb via Society6
I’m not gonna lie. There is nothing more fun for me than styling the bedroom of a teenage girl. Maybe because I was one, and in a lot of ways, still am. Even though I’m decades beyond a teenage reality, those memories are still raw, and I can go back there in a second. My style also tends to be playful despite my age, and I can really uncork some severely neglected creativity in spaces intended for children and teenagers. Here, I scored this vintage original and signed work and was thrilled when my young client loved it just as much as I did. It was the perfect injection of color and movement in an otherwise largely white and relaxing space. I was even more excited when my young horse-loving client chose to pair the original piece with some black and white photography. There is an undeniable peacefulness in the horse’s steady stare here, and the contrast between virtually all quantifiable characteristics in these two pieces creates space for the transition between the frenetic youthful energy and sleeping calm you expect to find in a teenager’s bedroom. And I know this lovely young client enjoys her special space for all the varied and beautiful moments it contains.
