I spotted this vintage piece deep in the aisles of a thrift shop I had visited many times before, and it immediately drew me in. As my cavapoo’s human, I couldn’t help but imagine that I had just uncovered the long-lost portrait of my dog’s poodle mother. While my dog is as casual, arguably apathetic, as they come, what if she came from the lineage represented here? A vain and domineering alpha who knows her worth and willingly sits for portraits donning rhinestone studded collars?

I brought her home, and my family has since created a backstory for our own beloved pet via this piece of art. We refer to her as our dog’s badass mom. There is some real comedy in the contrast since our dog is rarely upright and would be the omega to any other living, or non-living, thing. Now on the wall of our home, this vintage piece has created a playful but special connection among our family members and our beloved pet. That’s the power of art. Let the story-telling commence.
